Meter Electrician Apprentice

Hiring Process

Candidates must successfully complete and score competitively on:
  • Written application and a review of their complete driving record
  • Written test on electrical theory, mathematics, and worker attributes
  • Working test demonstrating knowledge of certain tools, electrical equipment, and the ability to perform work functions
  • Reference Check - Three work related references of your choice will be contacted
  • Pre-Employment Physical - (A medical examination of the candidate to determine whether they can perform the mental and physical functions of the job.)
  • Background Check - (Includes criminal history, driving record, education, and employment verification.)

Meter Electrician Overview & Expectations

  • The Meter Electrician Apprenticeship is a 6,000 hour training program.
  • Meter Apprentices learn to install single and poly-phase meters, transformer-related meters, self-contained meters, and instrument transformers.
  • Meter Apprentices learn about lab and field test meters, instrument repair, calibration, and acceptance testing.
  • Meter Apprentices will learn substation and co-generation metering.
  • Meter Apprentices attend a minimum of 144 hours of Related Supplemental Instruction one evening a week each school year.
