As your electric utility, Seattle City Light is always looking for innovative ways to improve customer service and increase our efficiency. One way we plan to meet these commitments is by replacing our old electro-mechanical meters with advanced digital meters.
Advanced metering is a technology that allows customers more control over their utility bills. They also help keep electric rates low by streamlining many of the processes that are currently done by hand. These electric meters send information electronically to City Light, so we won't have to dispatch a meter reader to your home. That means fewer vehicle trips, reduced emissions and other environmental benefits.
Advanced meters are more accurate than our older meters and help us provide better service by improving our ability to pinpoint areas affected by power outages; thus allowing us to quickly restore service to affected customers.
We are very early in our planning process for the transition to digital electric meters. We will begin installing the meters throughout our service area in 2015. As we prepare for this new technology, we are asking for comments, questions and any concerns you might have about advanced meters. We value your input and want to hear from you.
