If you are having trouble paying your bill, help is available. City Light's discounted rates for seniors, disabled and low-income customers can cut electric bills by about 60 percent. Emergency low-income assistance and Project SHARE can help pay bills during family or other emergencies. Weatherization grants can give you a warmer home that uses less energy.
Recent changes to income qualification requirements mean that more customers are eligible for these programs than ever before. If you think you might qualify, call the phone numbers listed below.

Discounted Rates for Seniors, Disabled and Low-Income Customers
|
Qualifying customers can save 60% on electricity bills and 50 percent on water, sewer and garbage bills. Customers living in federally-funded public housing and Section 8 housing are not eligible.
- Seniors and persons with disabilities - If you are a senior citizen or a person with disabilities and your income is at or below 70% of the state median level, call the Mayor's Office for Senior Citizens at (206) 684-0268.
- Low-Income - Customers with household income at or below 70% of state's median income may call the Seattle Human Services Department at (206) 684-0268 to qualify and enroll.

Federal Energy Assistance Program
|

If your main source of heat is electricity, gas or oil and you need help paying your utility bill during the winter season, call Seattle City Light or your energy utility to see if you qualify. In addition to financial assistance, this federally funded program offers energy education and budget counseling. Please call

Emergency Low Income Assistance
|
|
Please call us immediately if you have received an urgent notice. Seattle City Light customers may receive assistance of up to 50% or $200 of their electric bill. Your household income must be at or below 125% of federal poverty (around $2,503 for a one-person household in 2011), and you must have already received help from the federal Energy Assistance Program (see above). You will be required to make payment arrangements on any remaining balance. This assistance is limited to once every twelve months. Please call

Project SHARE
|
If you are still experiencing financial difficulties, have received an urgent notice and have taken advantage of all other assistance programs, call (206) 684-3000. Project Share is funded by customer donations. Initially, it will pay up to $250 towards your electric bill. If more assistance is needed, you may qualify to receive up to $250 in addition to the initial payment of $250. The maximum amount of assistance through Project SHARE is $500.
