Work planned on: 3rd Avenue North of Pine Street

Seattle City Light will be moving and building a new access hatch on 3rd Avenue at the bus stop in front of Macys. This project is associated with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) 3rd Avenue Transit Corridor Improvements and must take place to maintain electrical reliability to the area.

City Lights work is planned for the weekends starting Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will be complete before Thanksgiving. SDOT and King County Metro will begin transit improvements in 2014.

  • WHAT: Construction with heavy equipment to excavate, remove old access hatch and build a new access hatch in a newly expanded sidewalk.
  • WHY: The sidewalk expansion would otherwise bisect the current hatch for the vault. Crews must move the hatch, so that underground electrical equipment can continue to be accessed in the future.
  • WHERE: The work will occur in the easternmost lane of northbound 3rd Avenue just north of Pine Street at the bus stop in front of Macys. (See project map)

What You Can Expect:

  • No planned outages
  • Weekend (only) relocation of bus stop to a temporary stop 150 feet north
  • Two uniformed police officers to direct traffic and maintain access
  • Northbound 3rd Avenue single lane restriction from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekends only Oct. 5 - Nov. 23
  • Intermittent noise due to sawing and breaking concrete, excavation, carpentry saws, trucks

12/4/2013 Update: This work has been completed.

Schedule: October 5 - November 24
Begin: October 5
Duration: 7 weeks
