The existing direct buried underground electrical cable at the entrance to the Sand Point Country Club (SPCC) is reaching its useful life. Seattle City Light plans to replace the cable to provide a direct feed into the country club residential area and improve reliability.
Civil construction will happen first. New vaults and conduits will be installed in SPCC. Electrical work to install the new cables in the new conduit system will follow. This work involves less equipment as step vans pull cable between vaults. Power outages may be required during the transition from old cables to new. Notification to customers will be provided.
Update 5/24/2012: All of the underground cable work that started in November has been completed at the entrance to the Sand Point Country Club. The only work left is to "cut over" (transition to the new system). Due to current workload, the cut-over probably won't be scheduled for another couple of months or so. It will require a planned outage that will be scheduled well in advance. 60 degree weather is required for the final seal coating, SCL and SPU’s contractor will need to make final roadway repairs in the spring.
