Work planned on: Mount Baker: Shoreland Drive S. to South Andover

Seattle City Light has been replacing aging electrical cable in the Mt. Baker neighborhood in phases over the last several years. We plan to come to the section bounded by Shoreland Drive S. on the north, S. Andover Street on the south, and between Lakewood Avenue S on the east and Hunter Boulevard S on the west starting the third week of June to continue the up-grades.

The cable in the neighborhood is thirty or more years old. It is now reaching the end of its expected useful life. It needs to be replaced to improve the reliability of electrical service and to help avoid unplanned outages. We anticipate being in the project area for approximately six weeks. During that time we will be working at electrical vaults pulling and splicing electrical cable. Accessory equipment like insulative connectors and transformers will also be replaced on an as needed basis.

What You Can Expect

  • Planned Power outages so crews can safely do the work
  • Customers can expect a minimum of five planned outages
  • The project’s outages are on Tuesday and Thursdays and will last from approximately 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Notification by letter or door hanger two weeks in advance specifying the exact date of your outage
  • Work begins the third week of June and will last approximately 6 weeks
  • There will be some traffic and parking disruptions in the immediate work area, but it will be signed. Work is done at a vault so there is no trenching planned. Flaggers are used where needed on residential streets
  • Schedule: June-July, 2013
    Begin: June 20, 2013
    Duration: 6 weeks
