Project Overview: Crews plan to install new lines on the towers that are on either side of the Ship Canal at Warren Avenue. This will complete last year’s project and mean better service with more electrical capacity and reliability from our Canal and Broad Street substations.
Work is planned from mid-May through late-July for major activities. Finishing work may extend into mid-September. Work schedules will depend on weather conditions and emergency work elsewhere in our system. Crews will be working at the towers between 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Detours will be placed on the trails between 6:45 a.m.-5:15 p.m. Work will occur Mondays-Saturdays. We will keep community events in mind as we plan our work.
During the majority of the project work will take place on both sides of the Canal simultaneously. Please note there will be times when work is being conducted on one side only. Safety buffers will be set under the towers. There will be equipment staging.
Customers can expect lane closures and parking restrictions. A portion of the Burke-Gilman Trail and Ship Canal Trail will be closed intermittently. Bike trail detour signage will be placed in advance of our work.
7/14/2011 Update: We've completed work on both the towers, including placing power lines and fiberoptics. The Ship Canal trail and the Burke-Gilman trail are open and available for use. Finishing work for both power lines and fiberoptics will continue, so expect intermittent parking impacts. Work is tentatively scheduled to be complete by July 22.
