Green Power Program

Accomplishments

Since early 2006, the Seattle Green Power Program completed six new solar demonstration projects.

These projects are only made possible through the continuing contributions of City Light Green Power Program customers. Many of you have been supporting these projects since our beginning in 2002. A huge "Thank You" for helping to grow the market for widespread residential and commercial development of solar and other renewable energy sources in and around our community.

Solar Projects completed since 2006
  • Coronado Springs Career Development Center (King County Housing Authority) in White Center (Feb-06)
  • Spruce Street School near downtown Seattle (Mar-06)
  • Bertschi School in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle (Apr-06)
  • Parkwood Elementary School in Shoreline (May-06)
  • Montlake Community Center in Seattle (Jan-07)
  • Coronado Springs Career Development Center (King County Housing Authority) in White Center (Jan-06)
  • Spruce Street School near downtown Seattle (Feb-06)
  • Nihonmachi Terrace Apartments (Inter-Im Community Development Association) in the International District of Seattle (Mar-07)
New for 2007, many of these project sites will be identified with bright blue signs announcing "Solar Works in Seattle".

The total of 23 solar electric projects funded through the Green Power Program have a peak generating capacity of 70 kilowatts (DC) and are estimated to produce over 65,000 kWh of clean, renewable electricity each year. This is enough power to run 8 average households, or as many as 20 energy-conserving homes.

In addition to these demonstration projects, 45 residential customers have installed solar electricity on their own homes as part of City Light's customer-generation program. New federal tax laws and state renewable energy production incentives are responsible for much of this increase in local projects.
