What can you do if you feel like you are being scammed? We want to protect and empower our customers to put an end to scams. Here are some tips to protect yourself:

Phone
  • If you suspect a caller of posing as a City Light employee, hang up immediately and call 206.684.3000.
  • Verify the legitimacy of phone call by asking the employee questions to confirm that you are speaking with a City Light employee:
    • What was the amount of my last 2 'meter reads'?
    • What were my last 2 bill amounts?

Email
  • Do not click on links in emails from unknown senders
  • Do not reply to emails providing any personal or payment information
  • Do not open any attachments from suspicious parties or people you don't know

In-person
  • Request to see proper employee identification
  • Verify validity of employee by calling City Light
  • Do not leave employees unattended in your home
  • If someone comes to your home claiming to be an employee of City Light but does not have identification proof, close the door, secure your home and call the police. Be ready to provide a description of the person, the vehicle he or she is driving, license plate number and the direction they are traveling.
