City Light Rate Adjustment
Effective January 1, 2012
On November 22, 2010 the Seattle City Council adopted Ordinance 123479. The ordinance calls for a 3.2 percent increase in City Light’s rates, effective January 1, 2012. This is an across-the-board rate increase applied to each element of each rate schedule; therefore, all rate classes will receive the same increase. The duct, vault and pole rental rates are increased based on actual cost of service. These rental rates are increasing as follows: ducts are increasing by 13%, vaults by 3.3%, and poles by 13.1%.
Note that though there are 2012 rate schedules listed in Ordinance 123479 and in the SMC, these will not be the rates effective for 2012. When drafting the ordinance, City Light anticipated that a BPA pass-through would go into effect on October 1, 2011 and this was incorporated into the 2012 rates. However, BPA rates did not change. Therefore, the actual rates that will go into effect on January 1, 2012 are slightly lower than those listed in the ordinance and SMC.
