This team is responsible for providing support and assistance in developing, planning and implementing a variety of accident prevention programs in the Utility. Specifically in 1999, the team was charged with the responsibility of reducing workers’compensation cost for the Utility. In spite of demanding workloads, changing priorities and unpredictable customers demands, the team developed claims management strategies to help control the compensation claims and bring injured workers back to work as soon as medical possible. The implementation of these strategies resulted in cost saving to the Utility of over $800,000 in Worker Compensation dollars in 1999. Significantly, the Utility also achieved a 25% reduction in the severity rate of injuries, the lowest severity rate in five years.
