UPCOMING EXAMS FOR SEATTLE POLICE OFFICERS

LATERAL POLICE OFFICER EXAM

The next exam for Lateral Entry Police officer will be conducted March 13-16, 2015. This exam is for experienced officers only.

Lateral Police Officer candidates are experienced police officers who have worked full time for other municipal, county, or state police agencies for at least 24 consecutive months in the past 36 months (post academy experience) at the time of testing, with full police powers and duties. The academy training received must be equivalent to that administered by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Academy. If you are currently a police officer but do not meet the experience requirements of a Lateral Police Officer, it is possible that you may qualify to test as an Exceptional Entry candidate with other Entry Level candidates. Entry-level and exceptional entry candidates will be tested on three separate dates in 2015: February 28, May 9, and October 3, 2015.

The online application period for the lateral entry exam will be open during the period of November 5, 2014 February 24, 2015 (4:00 p.m. PDT). The written exam will occur on March 13. Candidates who pass the written exam will be scheduled for an oral board interview on March 14. Candidates who pass both the written exam and oral board exam will be scheduled for an extensive interview with a background detective on March 15 or March 16, 2015.

Applications will be screened to ensure that candidates meet the minimum qualifications to take the Lateral Entry exam.
Also, Public Safety Civil Service rules stipulate that you must wait 6 months between exams. You are not eligible for this exam if you participated in a City of Seattle police exam process within the last 6 months.
You will be scheduled for the exam within two weeks of receipt of your application. If you do not receive an exam scheduling notification in that time, please call Rachael Schade at the number listed below.

IMPORTANT PLEASE TAKE NOTE: All candidates should download a Personal History Information Packet from the Police Employment Web Site below as soon as they are scheduled to take the written test. Since the Personal History Information Packet is an important document that takes time to fill out and will facilitate the background investigation, you should begin the process of completing the packet AS SOON AS YOU ARE SCHEDULED TO TAKE THE WRITTEN TEST. It is expected that you will have a completed packet with you when you come to participate in your oral board interview on March 14, 2015.
