LATERAL POLICE OFFICER EXAM
|

|
The next exam for Lateral Entry Police officer will be conducted October 23-26, 2013. This exam is for experienced officers only.
|
| |
|
Lateral Police Officer candidates are experienced police officers who have worked for other agencies for at least 24 of the past 36 months (post academy experience) at the time of testing, with full police powers and duties. If you are currently a police officer but do not meet the experience requirements of a Lateral Police Officer, you may qualify to test as an Exceptional Entry candidate with other Entry Level candidates on July 13 or in October (the following entry level exam).

The online application period for the lateral entry exam will be open during the period of June 19, 2013 – September 17, 2013. The written exam will occur on October 23, 2013. Candidates who pass the written exam will be scheduled for an oral board interview on October 24. Candidates who pass both the written exam and oral board exam will be scheduled for an extensive interview with a background detective on October 25 or 26, 2013.

Applications will be screened to ensure that candidates meet the minimum qualifications to take the Lateral Entry exam.
|
| Also, Public Safety Civil Service rules stipulate that you must wait 6 months between exams. You are not eligible for this exam if you participated in a City of Seattle police exam process within the last 6 months.
|
| You will be scheduled for the exam within one week of receipt of your application and application fee waiver or remittance of the fee. If you do not receive an exam scheduling notification in that time, please call Rachael Schade at the number listed below.

IMPORTANT – PLEASE TAKE NOTE: All candidates should download a Personal History Information Packet from the Police Employment Web Site below as soon as they are scheduled to take the written test. Since the Personal History Information Packet is an important document that takes time to fill out and will facilitate the background investigation, you should begin the process of completing the packet AS SOON AS YOU ARE SCHEDULED TO TAKE THE WRITTEN TEST. It is expected that you will have a completed packet with you when you come to take your oral board interview on October 25.

ENTRY-LEVEL & EXCEPTIONAL ENTRY POLICE EXAM:The next exam process for entry-level and exceptional entry level candidates is scheduled to occur over the weekend of July 13. (See schedule below for processing out-of-state and in-state candidates). PLEASE NOTE: The application will only be available online while the filing period is open: from May 6, 2013 – June 25, 2013 at 4:00 p.m (PST). Also, Public Safety Civil Service rules stipulate that you must wait 6 months between exams. You are not eligible for this exam if you took the written Police exam in March 2013.

OUT-OF-STATE CANDIDATES (Entry-level & Exceptional Entry)
|

|
All applicants who live outside the State of Washington will be scheduled to take the written and video exams the morning of July 13, 2013. Exams will be graded on-site for all out-of-state applicants. Applicants who pass both the written and video exams will be scheduled by the Seattle Police Department to participate in the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission’s physical agility test that afternoon on July 13, 2013. Out-of-State candidates who also pass the physical agility test will be scheduled for participation in an oral board interview on July 14, 2013. Candidates who participate in the oral board process may be scheduled to participate in an interview with a background detective on July 15 or July 16, 2013.

IN-STATE CANDIDATES (Entry-level & Exceptional Entry)

|
All applicants who live within the State of Washington will be scheduled to take the written and video exams the morning of July 13, 2013. Exams will be scored within 1 week. Candidates who pass both the written and video exams will be scheduled by the Seattle Police Department to participate in the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission’s physical agility test during the weekend of August 3 & 4. In-state candidates should reserve these dates on their calendar for possible participation in the test. In-state Candidates who pass the physical agility on August 3, may be scheduled for an oral board interview on August 4, 2013.
