Internship period is July 7 - August 17, 2021
  • 400 youth and young adults, ages 16 to 24, will be selected by lottery to participate.
  • Those selected will participate in in-person, virtual, or hybrid (depending on COVID restrictions at start of program) career readiness learning activities prior to internship start date.
  • Participants who complete all eligibility screening and career readiness programming will be placed at six-week internships with City departments and participating non-profit organizations.
  • These internships will also be in-person, virtual, or hybrid depending on updated COVID guidelines by Summer 2021.
  • All interns will be paid $16.69 per hour.

  • be between the ages of 16 and 24 years old at the start of the program.
  • live within the Seattle city limits (check here).
  • live in a household with income at or below 80% Area Median Income (AMI). See AMI table to the right.

Please read all program requirements before applying. You will not be considered for the program if you do not meet all the program requirements so please ensure that your application is accurate.

Lottery Process

Due to high demand, 400 participants will be selected for the summer internship (number of available internships will depend on COVID restrictions/guidelines). Only eligible applications received by April 2, 2021, 11:59 pm, will be entered into a lottery. You will be notified of the results of the lottery -- whether you are accepted or declined. Lottery notifications will be sent by email during the week of April 5, 2021.

SYEP uses a randomized selection process to select program participants. 400 potential participants will be notified that they have been selected for the eligibility process. Additional eligible applicants may be notified that they are on a waitlist and will be contacted if a slot becomes available.
