Public Health Programs and Services

The City of Seattle’s investments in public health services are multifaceted. The City is not mandated by law to provide public health services, so we are uniquely focused on the well-being of our citizens, and on working to eliminate health disparities based on income, race, ethnicity and other factors.

Our services supplement basic public health services provided to Seattle residents by Public Health – Seattle & King County.

On this site:

The City of Seattle has funded public health programs and services for its residents for decades. In 2008, we spent $11.5 million of City General Funds on public health programs. In addition, over $3.9 million of the City’s Families and Education Levy money was spent on school-based health services during the 2008-2009 school year. Funding for school based health services continues during the 2009-2010 school year. City funds often leverage other funding from federal, state and county sources, which builds the capacity of existing public health programs to improve the scope and quality of the services they provide.
