The City of Seattle’s investments in public health services are multifaceted. The City is not mandated by law to provide public health services, so we are uniquely focused on the well-being of our citizens, and on working to eliminate health disparities based on income, race, ethnicity and other factors.

Our services supplement basic public health services provided to Seattle residents by Public Health – Seattle & King County.

The City of Seattle has funded public health programs and services for its residents for decades. In 2010, we spent more than $11.5 million of City General Funds on public health programs. In addition, more than $4 million of the City's Families and Education Levy money will be spent on school-based health services during the 2010-2011 school year. City funds often leverage other funding from federal, state and county sources, which builds the capacity of existing public health programs to improve the scope and quality of the services they provide.
