Public Health Indicators

The Healthy Communities Initiative Policy Guide was developed following a year of research and input from health experts and community members. The research included an extensive review of health data, local demographics, and an assessment of the history of the City of Seattle’s public health services over a 10-year time span. This research helped determine the best strategy for investments in the health of Seattle residents.

A significant finding of this research showed disparities in health outcomes based on income, race, ethnicity, immigrant/refugee status, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, health insurance status, neighborhood and level of education. The policy guide explicitly emphasizes that City investments be used wisely to address and eliminate these disparities by promoting broad access to culturally appropriate clinical and preventive health services.
