Shelter and Housing

Furniture Bank

The Church Council of Greater Seattles Sharehouse provides free furniture and housewares to homeless and formerly homeless individuals and families who are moving into stable housing.

Moving into a new apartment is expensive, often requiring paying deposits and first and last months rent. If a family is unable to afford basic household items such as furniture and kitchen wares, the danger of slipping back into homelessness increases.

Sharehouse staff collects new and used furniture and housewares from individuals, families and area businesses. It distributes them to about 1,350 newly established homes each year, referred by more than 50 agencies across the county. Each year, Sharehouse saves an estimated 20,000 items from being dumped in Puget Sound area landfills.
