Domestic Violence Prevention Council

The Seattle Domestic Violence Prevention Council, established in 1996, works in tandem with Seattle’s Mayor and City Council to provide leadership, oversight and coordination of the City of Seattle’s efforts to end domestic violence. Through the work of two subcommittees, the council developed and is in the process of implementing the 2013-2015 Domestic Violence Strategic Plan: Seattle’s Criminal Justice Response.

The council is staffed by the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention program in the Human Services Department.

Because domestic violence is a complex problem that knows no geographic or socio-economic boundaries, we are committed to working closely with our community partners — human services providers, businesses, schools, health care professionals, media, faith communities, other government officials and concerned residents — to stop domestic violence. The Domestic Violence Prevention Council has one subcommittee, the Criminal Justice Subcomittee.

Biennial Report on Domestic Violence in Seattle

Toward Safety and Justice: Domestic Violence in Seattle is a biennial report that aims to raise public awareness of all aspects of domestic violence – what it is, who and how many people it affects, and how the community responds to domestic violence. The report include national and local criminal justice and service data that helps explain the scope of the problem in our region. Also, it includes the City’s efforts to address these problems and gaps in services.
