Programs

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds are allocated to support programs that help fulfill the mission of the following:

Office of Economic Development

The Seattle Office of Economic Development uses CDBG funds to supplement its efforts to create a vibrant economy and promote economic opportunity for all of Seattle's diverse residents.

Specifically, this office uses CDBG funds to:

  • provide technical assistance and financial support to local community development corporations for specific development projects;
  • provide loans to small businesses serving LMI neighborhoods
  • provide CD financing: affordable housing to commercial businesses and nonprofits in support of the SE Seattle Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area (NRSA)

Office of Housing

Seattle's Office of Housing implements Consolidated Plan strategies to promote affordable long-term housing and implement the Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness in King County. CDBG and HOME Investment Partnership funds are used to:

  • provide home rehabilitation and home repair loans for low- and moderate-income homeowners;
  • fund homebuyer assistance programs; and
  • provide capital loans for the preservation and development of affordable rental housing.

Emergency and Transitional Services

A portion of CDBG funds supports the Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness in King County. These funds are used by the Seattle Human Services Department, in conjunction with City of Seattle general funds and other resources, to support agencies that provide shelter and transitional housing services, including services for those experiencing domestic violence.
