Seattle Human Services Department Programs -- Community Facilities Accomplishments
From 1991 through 2006, the Community Facilities Program provided financing to 100 construction projects and facility feasibility studies. Total financing amounted to more than $14 million. Examples of some recent projects:
- Denise Louie Education Center replaced an old child care site with a new one on Beacon Hill, featuring bright classrooms and functional administrative space.
- First A.M.E. Child and Family Services renovated an old, light-industrial building on South Genesee Street in the Rainier Valley into a bright, new Head Start facility.
- Pike Market Senior Center doubled the space available for programs and meals in its new LaSalle Building facility at Pike Place Market.
- Heat and air systems at El Centro de la Raza on Beacon Hill were upgraded and dramatically reduced heating costs for the agency while improving the building’s environment. El Centro provides a variety of services for Spanish-speaking individuals and families including meals, counseling and education.
- Elderhealth Northwest renovated an old office building in the Ravenna neighborhood to provide adult day health services to seniors.
- The Filipino Community of Seattle, the Lao Highland Association and the Eritrean Association all have new or improved community and social services centers as a result of separate community facilities loans.
