Preschool Programs for Three- and Four-Year-Olds Parent-Child Home Program Professional Development

SEEC (formerly Early Learning Network) partners work together to increase the number of school-ready children in Seattle though improving access to high quality early learning and preschool programs, starting first with the publicly funded programs that serve low-income children.

SEEC partners leverage funds and improve outcomes through joint professional development, assessment, data collection and kindergarten transition services. SEEC-participating early learning programs include Head Start/Early Head Start, the state-funded Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP), the Families and Education Levy-funded Step Ahead preschools and the City-funded Comprehensive Child Care Program.

SEEC programs include:

• Preschool programs for three-and four-year-olds from low-income families (up to 300% federal poverty guidelines) - Seattle Step Ahead preschools and the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP).
• Early Childhood Education Professional Development - includes training, academic coursework, on-site coaching, teacher practice and technical assistance.
• Assessments - Children are assessed three times a year using curriculum-imbedded assessment from Creative Curriculum Teaching Strategies Gold or High Scope and Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT). Classrooms are assessed using the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scales (ERS) and the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS). Assessment results are analyzed to guide teacher practice to ensure high-quality programs for children.
• Parent-Child Home Program - Free in-home visits and information and training for low-income families with young children.
• Kindergarten Transition services provide enrichment and support for children and families through the first year of kindergarten. Information on kindergarten enrollment with Seattle Public Schools can be found here.
