School-based After School Programs

The City of Seattles Human Services Department works in partnership with Seattle Public Schools to provide school-based after-school programs that engage children in safe, constructive, culturally relevant and learning-enriched activities.

Ninety-four percent of Seattle School District elementary schools have high-quality, fee-based licensed after-school and summer programs on-site. The Human Services Department provides:

In addition, 35 elementary schools received dedicated school-age care space built by the Seattle School District Building Excellence capital construction program; an additional 11 elementary schools are in planning stages with the SPS Building Excellence IV capital construction project. The Human Services Department partners with the Seattle School District to provide child care design consultation and project coordination at each site during construction and facilitation of the child care selection processes for new school buildings. Human Services Department staff also provide leadership and planning coordination to the Seattle Public Schools Community Alignment Initiative, a partnership between each school and the child care program to share space and other resources.
