Restoration Activities

The Friends of Hitt’s Hill leads the restoration efforts in the park. We are proud of the progress we have made and know that our hard work will pay dividends for years to come.

A summary of our activities:

2001

Inventoried native and non-native invasive plants growing in the park

Began applying for local grants and formalizing ideas for park use

2002

Awarded a Small & Simple grant from the Seattle Dept. of Neighborhoods

Contracted with an arborist to survey existing trees and prioritize future care

Conducted 10 volunteer work parties along with EarthCorps

Awarded a Pro Parks grant from Seattle Parks & Recreation

Actively participated in two community meetings to gather input and ideas for park goals, use and design

Awarded a Natural Resource Stewardship Network grant from the King County Dept. of Natural Resources & Parks, USDA Forest Service and Washington Dept. of Natural Resources

2003

Partnered with the Parks Dept. to complete the site design and vegetation management plan

Coordinated with contractors to install irrigation lines, fencing, stairs, and an ADA-accessible path and parking spot

Contracted with an arborist to perform the highest-priority tree care

Awarded a Large Project Fund grant from the Seattle Dept. of Neighborhoods

Added new plantings in the high-visibility entrances & two educational areas that demonstrate the plant mix in a healthy NW forest

Led more than a dozen volunteer work parties (summer, fall and winter)
