Trustee’s Meeting, Bldg. 30, Warren G. Maguson Park
Wednesday, June 21, 2006
Welcome & Introduction:
President Bonnie Miller called the meeting to order at 7:30PM in the First Floor Conference Room, Bldg. 30. President Miller welcomed the trustees and guests.
Trustees Present:
Bonnie Miller, Dorothy Neville, Shelley Hartnett, Carolyn Chapman, Saundra Aker, Nancy Bittner, Arden Forrey, George Holzapfel, Mary Savage, Margaret Thouless, and Gail Chiarello, Editor.
Trustees Absent:
Kent Isgrig, Greg Schell, Andrea Gates Sanford, Vance Thompson, and Ryan Rockwell.
Presidents Report: Bonnie Miller reviewed the following correspondence:
· One Reel A Gas Works
· NE 55th St Bus Stop – will be relocated ~ 60 feet to the east of 43rd Avenue NE on NE 55th Ave.
· Freemont Public Association will replace the Sand Point Community Housing Association (SPCHA)
Secretary’s Report:
The minutes were reviewed: January 18 were corrected as “University” Circle and March 15, 2006 minutes corrected for the 2006 budget. C. Chapman moved both sets be approved as corrected, seconded N. Bittner. The vote for approval was unanimous.
Treasurers Report: Carolyn Chapman presented the treasurers report.
Beginning Balance Feb. 28, 2006: $6271.47
Total Income: $3504.39
Total Expenses: $2055.54
Ending Balance May 31, 2006: $7720.32
D. Neville, seconded by S. Aker, moved to approve the treasurer’s report. The motion was voted on and passed unanimously.
New Business:
Break Through parent Institute, “Kids Company” Dorothy Neville (for
Anna Alton)
The request for funding was with drawn by Kids Company.
Fremont Public Association (FPA), Humberto Alvarez, Housing Services
Director and John Kudor
Mr. Alvarez assured the HHCC that the FPA would update the neighborhood councils.
FPA will replace the Sand Point Community Housing Association (SCHA) as leaseholder. FPA has an open board meeting on the first Thursday each month.
Seattle City Council will vote on Phase I after January 2007. A neighborhood Advisory Committee composed of representatives of the surrounding communities will be activated. The Advisory Committee will resume in Fall 2006 for Phase II (106 units).
FPA name changes to “Solid Ground” - whose staff helps, locate permanent housing. “ Transition in place” with services, Hawthorne Hills Community Council will have the opportunity a representative on the advisory or oversight committee. President Miller requested the HHCC be included in the correspondence with the SCHA.
Burke Gilman Public Development Authority (B-G PDA) – D Neville
AF Evans owns the buildings and leases the land. The Executive Director resigned this spring. D. Neville was elected Chairperson of the B-G PDA. The B-G PDA is now accepting recommendations for an open board position this fall.
Friends of Magnuson Park
Vance Thompson, unable to attend, sent a written report with future proposals and plans. See Attached
North Precinct Advisory Council – George Holzapfel
G. Horzapfel moved, seconded by D.Neville, HHCC send a letter to the Seattle City Council 1) strongly supporting additional police officers for the North Precinct and 2) recommend a review of geographical placement of officers for efficiency. The motion was voted on and approved unanimously.
The North Precinct will host a neighborhood picnic and open house on Saturday, July 15, 2006. All neighbors are invited.
North East District Council – Bonnie Miller
The NE District Council has elected co-chairpersons for the new term: Bonnie Miller and Robin Seymour.
N. Bittner moved, seconded by A. Forrey, HHCC send a letter asking the WADOT to review speed limits on Sandpoint Way NE for consistency and public safety. It was voted on and approved.
Sand Point Advisory Meetings (CHMC) – Shelley Hartnett
Carmen Dalziel, Executive Director, of the Center for
Spiritual Living, contacted Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CHMC) inquiring
about additional parking and limited use of CHMC building on Sandpoint Way NE
for classroom space asking during the Center’s reconstruction. In September,
Carmen Dalziel, Executive Director, will attend the HHCC open board meeting
with an update on the Construction project at the Center for Spiritual Living.
Seattle Code of Ethics, Charter changes – Gail Chiarello
G. Chiarello presented arguments for retaining the City ‘s Code of Ethics. She moved, seconded by A. Forrey, the HHCC send a letter to the Seattle Mayor Nichol’s recommending rejection of the new proposal and confirming the current City of Seattle Code of Ethics. It was vote on and passed unanimously.
After discussion, a HHCC notice of activities will be available at the Block Watch Night parties on August 1, 2006. A handout will be prepared containing a synopsis of participation by the HHCC in community activities.
D. Neville moved, seconded by S.Hartnett, the HHCC continue publication of the September newsletter (G. Chiarello, Editor). It was voted on and approved unanimously. The newsletter will by published twice this next year, noremintance envelopes. HHCC members were encouraged to increase ad solicitation.
Kent Isgrig will continue to work on the HHCC Web site.
C. Chapman moved, seconded by A, Forrey, the meeting be adjourned. It was vote on and passed. The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 PM.
HHCC Board Meeting: The next meeting is September 20, 2006, 7:30PM, First Floor Conference Room, Bldg 30, Magnuson Park. The community members are welcome to attend.
