President Ryan Rockwell called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM, First Floor Conference Room, Bldg. 30, Warren G. Magnuson Park.

Minutes:  S. Hartnett

S. Hartnett presented the minutes from the June 20, 2007 meeting.  M. Savage moved to accept the minutes, seconded by G. Holzapfel.  The motion to approve the minutes was voted on and passed.

A. Forrey moved to accept the Treasurer's report, seconded by Joan Oates.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Children’s Hospital Expansion

Jeannie Hale, president LCC, presented the Laurelhurst study alternatives for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) of Children’s Hospital Medical Center’s (CHMC) proposed expansion.  She proposed the HHCC endorse the LCC study and write a letter of support to the Department of Planning and Development (DPD).  After a question and answer period, G. Chiarello, seconded by G. Holzapfel, moved the HHCC support the LCC study of lesser impact alternatives by writing a letter to the Seattle Department of Planning and Development. It was voted on and passed unanimously.

Michael Omura, the Hawthorne Halls appointed person in the CAC gave an update of the process the initial application and EIS scooping comments procedure for the proposed Children’s’ Hospital expansion.

 

Break Through Parent Institute

Mollie M. Hughes, Director of Education, presented the mission and goals of the Break Through Parent Institute located on 5100 40th Ave NE in Seattle. Ms. Hughes requested the HHCC donate monies to support their community projects: Children’s Gift Store, Halloween party and Holiday Party.  She invited the council to attend the functions.

V. Thompson moved, seconded by J. Oats, that HHC donate $200.00 towards the projects.  It was voted on and passed unanimously.

 

Newsletter  G. Chiarello

The newsletter deadline for ads and submissions is October 20, 2007.

 

NPAC   G.  Holzapfel

The 2008 Seattle Police budget has increased staffing.  The SPD is exploring other additions to the force (motorcycle medics) and a proposed new prescient.

 

Fourth of July Celebration  Ryan Rockwell

The first annual Hawthorne Hills Fourth of July celebration was a success.  Plans will be made to have another celebration in 2008.  It was suggest the Metropolitan Market be contacted for support and donations next year.

 

Web Site  Kent Isgrig

The web site now provides HH neighbors the ability pay dues on line.

 

Burke-Gilman Place PDA  Dorothy Neville

The Burke Gilman PDA still needs board members.  In less than 20 years the lease with the apartment owner changes. HHCC will want neighborhood input to influence what happens.

 

Friends of Burke-Gilman Trail at Sand Point (Friends)  Margaret Thouless

Tree planting work parties will be Saturday, November 10 and December 1 at 10 AM. Previously, HHCC trustees pledged 10 hours of volunteer service to work with Friends. Contact G. Chiarello if you can volunteer those days.

 

The next meeting of the HHCC will be Wednesday, January 16, 2008. The meetings are open to the public.
