Treasurer:  C. Chapman

        Ending balance February 28, 2007                             $6,375.52

The expenses were primarily the Spring newsletter publishing, mailing and plants for University Circle.  B. Miller moved to accept the Treasurer's report, seconded by Joan Oates.  The motion passed unanimously.

HHCC received a letter from Break Through Parent Institute requesting a donation to help with program costs given to Burke Gilman residents.  C. Chapman will call and investigate the request.

Newsletter:  G. Chiarello

Advertising change requests were received from two current clients, Sand Point Chiropractic and the Sand Point Pharmacy.  R. Rockwell reported Varlamos Pizza wants a double ad in the Fall newsletter.  C. Chapman has volunteered to contact all current advertisers before the next issue to confirm their ads.  G. Chiarello requested anyone watching or participating in the 4th of July Celebration and Neighbors Night Out on August 7th to take digital pictures and get them to her for the Fall newsletter.  The next newsletter is scheduled for Fall 2007.

Northeast District Council (NEDC):  Bonnie Miller

The City from project suggestions considered three proposed HHCC projects in the annual NSF/CRF awards and the Bridging the Gap levy that was recently passed by Seattle citizens.   The rankings were as follows:

# 1 Side walks for both sides of Sandpoint Way NE between 45th and 47th Streets

# 3 Repair and maintenance on the stairs in the Kingfisher Basin and Magnuson Park

#10 T. Savage’s proposal for a safe pedestrian crossing at Sandpoint Way NE and NE 52nd Street

There were 16 proposals.  This is a very good showing for HH

NPAC:   G.  Holzapfel

At the North Seattle Police Precinct staffing now is being changed to match the peaks and valley of calls.  Police officers will be added to the force as well as additional allocation for staffing at the North Precinct.

Traffic on NE 55th Street Problems:  J. Oates

Increasing reports of speeding on NE 55th Street at the left turn off the Princeton Bridge heading toward 40th Ave. NE have been addressed by the transportation/traffic division.  The city refuses to put in a crosswalk at NE 55th Street and 45th Ave. NE.  A death has not occurred at this crossing.  Elma Boyle of the Rhoda Jean Apartments at NE 55th St. and 43rd Ave. NE has been working on this problem for several years (G. Chiarello).  Bonnie Mille, immediate Past President (HHCC) had written letters addressing the problem.  Members present requested Joan Oates send contact information for S-DOT. HHCC members could e-mail and phone them.  With Greg Nickels’ current “Pedestrian Safety Initiative,” the time is right for action.

Fourth of July Celebration:  Ryan Rockwell

The first annual Hawthorne Hills Fourth of July celebration has been finalized.  The parade will start at 11:00 am and proceed on the sidewalk from NE 65th Street along Vassar and to the University Circle Park.  Parade participants include Fire Station Engine Company #38, decorated children’s’ rides and dogs.  The Board members will help with advertising and with organization for the event.  Boy Scout Troop #186 will be unable to participate because of conflicting engagements.

Costs associated with the event include a $115.00 fee for the use of the park and ice cream bars for the participants.  Those costs will be paid from the HHCC treasury.  The first annual Fourth of July will be combined with a ribbon cutting for the newly renovated University Circle Park.

Web Site:  Kent Isgrig

The web site now provides HH neighbors the ability pay dues on line.

Burke-Gilman Place PDA: Dorothy Neville

D. Neville could not attend and sent this report.  The Burke Gilman PDA needs board members. The Mayor is enforcing a policy that requires three (3) resumes for every open board seat. He then will choose among the applicants.   BG Place PDA is small and has difficulty finding interested people. Previously, this policy was not enforced.   The Mayor’s office has one applicant and is waiting for two more. D. Neville asked them to interview this person and encourages interested neighbors to consider applying.
In less than 20 years the lease with the apartment owner changes drastically. At that point HHCC will want neighborhood input to influence what happens.

Fire Station #38:  Bonnie Miller

The fire station is in the pre-design phase.  Schematics design is the next phase followed by the neighborhoods participation

.

Friends of Burke-Gilman Trail at Sand Point (Friends):  Ryan Rockwell

Board members were given a progress report on the construction of the expansion of the Center for Spiritual Living.  The Friends are working with the CSP. A motion to have HHCC act as the fiscal agent for Friends of the Burke-Gilman Trail for a Small and Simple Grant was made by B. Miller and seconded by S. Hartnett.  HHCC voted in favor of supporting Friends as its fiscal agent, with no monetary support.  HHCC trustees present each pledged 10 hours of volunteer service to work with Friends.

The next meeting of the HHCC is tentatively set for Wednesday, September 19, 2007. The meetings are open to the public.
