Prospect Park Alliance
 
Mary is the Vice President for Capital & Planning for the Prospect Park Alliance. She oversees the departments of Design & Construction, Information Technology and Archives/Record Management.

Mary has spent almost 14 years helping to restore one of the wonders of the world - Prospect Park in Brooklyn. First hired as a temporary employee to head up the Carousel restoration, she went on to join the team that became the Prospect Park Alliance Design & Construction office. Soon after, she bought her first pair of construction boots and never looked back.

The office has grown as their work expanded to include all the design and construction supervision for the Park, adding Architects and an Historic Preservationist to the Landscape Architects already toiling away.

Now Vice President for Capital & Planning, she is also responsible for Information Technology (including GIS), Historic Archives & Records Management and planning. She is always happy to share what she has learned and take credit for the work of her remarkable staff.

Christina Gallegos
Naturalist, Seward Park Naturalist, Seattle Parks and Recreation
Christina is a twenty year veteran of the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department. She began her career as an Employment Counselor with the Summer Youth Employment Program in 1982. In 1987 she was hired as the first permanent Volunteer Coordinator and began the development of the Adopt-A-Park program. Between 1987 and 1993 she worked with many community organizations to build support and long term neighborhood groups to support parks throughout the city. Between 1993 and 1998 she worked on many restoration and community based projects in the south division including: Pritchard Wetlands restoration, Genesee Wildflower meadow, and Deadhorse Canyon. Christina has been instrumental in the development of environmental education and interpretative programming at Seward Park and in the southeast corridor of the city. She currently holds the position of Naturalist at Seward Park.

Christina is a native of the San Luis Valley, one of the highest and largest alpine valleys in the country, nestled between the Sangre De Cristo and San Juan mountain ranges in Southern Colorado, 130 miles north of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Robert Garcia 
Senior Attorney and Director of the City Project, Center for Law in the Public Interest, Los Angeles, California
Robert García is a Senior Attorney and Director of The City Project. The mission of The City Project is to achieve equal justice, democracy and livability in the Los Angeles region by influencing the investment of public resources to achieve results that are equitable, enhance human health and the environment, and promote economic vitality for all communities. The City Project engages in advocacy, coalition building and litigation focused on equal access to parks and recreation; converting brownfields into green and clean schools, playgrounds and parks; and transportation equity.
Robert has been a key member of the legal team to create state parks in the Chinatown Cornfield, Baldwin Hills, and Taylor Yard along the Los Angeles River. Robert is Chairman of the Proposition BB Citizens’ Oversight Committee, overseeing the investment of $2.4 billion for public school construction and modernization in Los Angeles.

Jeff Girvin 
ASLA
Principal, The Berger Partnership
Seattle, WA.
Mr. Girvin has been a principal with The Berger Partnership since 1982 and firm president for the last two years. Jeff's projects encompass a broad variety of types including work on commercial developments and educational projects. He also serves as principal in charge and project designer on many of the firm's park and athletic facility projects. Jeff brings to public projects a passion for community-based design, believing public input to be the backbone of any successful public project. His park experience includes the master planning and design of new parks facilities as well as the renovation and redesign of existing park facilities.

Jeff is currently principal-in-charge of Lincoln Reservoir Park, an Olmsted park adaptive reuse project located in Seattle's most densely populated neighborhood, Capitol Hill. The project has included an extensive public involvement process resulting in re-design of an Olmsted park and creation of several new acres of park open-space, created by the covering of an existing reservoir facility. The resulting design balances the historical components of the old reservoir and the Olmsted park design with new park elements and a major new public art work . Selected other projects include: Sand Point Magnuson Works Park, Seattle; Redmond High School, Redmond.

In addition to his work with The Berger Partnership, Jeff shares his passion for great design with the public through his participation in the design community, having served as a member of the Seattle Design Commission and currently serving as a Board of Trustees member for ARCADE magazine.

 
 
Nancy Gronowski
Senior Planner, Portland Parks & Recreation
Nancy is a graduate of Michigan State University and a registered landscape architect. Her work experiences range from site and park design for Cleveland MetroParks to master plans for Oregon State Parks, including initial proposals to preserve the remaining sections of the Historic Columbia River Highway, to numerous management plans for Portland Parks & Recreation. Current projects include revising Portland's Urban Forestry Management Plan, which she authored, and working on a comprehensive strategic plan for Portland Parks & Recreation. Interests include gardening, reading and running.
