Segway Evaluation

June 2004: Segway Project Update

The city of Seattle owns 15 SegwayTM Human Transporters and is conducting tests in various environments. This limited investment allows the city to explore ways to diversify its fleet of vehicles. At the conclusion of the tests, the Fleets and Facilities Department will be able to determine which city applications, if any, are best suited for the Segway HT.

Segway Recall, Sept. 26, 2003
Segway issued a voluntary recall to upgrade software on its human transporters. http://www.segway.com/support/recalls/recall_001.html
  • The City of Seattle owns 15 Segways, used by Seattle Public Utilities meter readers, Treasury Department parking meter collectors, fire inspector and employees in Parks and Recreation.
  • City of Seattle Segway users experienced no injuries due to the recall issue.
  • A Segway technician came on site Sept. 26 to make the software upgrades to the City's Segways.
