Once a permit application has been received in our office it is directed to the work unit (Special Hazards, Special Events or Operations) responsible for inspection and approval of the field conditions prior to issuance. Some permits (Level I) are inspected by firefighters from your local fire station and other permits that have more complex code requirements that must be met (Level II) are inspected only by inspectors assigned to the Fire Prevention Division.  

Some permits require that you, the applicant, call to arrange for an inspection. If that is the case the permit application form will direct you to make that call. For all other permits you may be subject to an unannounced inspection or an inspector may call to arrange for a time to meet with you at the location. Time sensitive permits are given priority and other permit applications are typically inspected in the order they are received. 

In all cases, you will be notified in writing of any corrections that may be necessary before approval of the permit can be granted.

Once an inspector has approved the permit for issuance the Permit Unit staff is responsible for the processing, recording and mailing of the permit.
