The Training Division of Seattle Fire Department provides firefighters with continuous operational training on an annual basis. Firefighters receive a variety of general training courses including apparatus driver training, marine firefighting, hazardous materials, rescue and collapse and operational readiness to name a few.

The Training Division also coordinates annual fire company and individual performance evaluations, medical monitoring and individual physical fitness evaluations of Fire Fighters.

Training is coordinated with Washington State Fire Service Training and the United States Fire Administration Training Programs.

Safety

The department's Safety Officers report directly to the department's Assistant Chief of Operations.

The Safety Officers are responsible for:

• Coordinating safety evaluations of new firefighting equipment before it is purchased
• Responding to all types of incidents including fires, hazardous material responses, marine incidents, etc., and providing for the overall safety of personnel on the scene.
• Investigating all accidents and occupational injuries involving personnel.
• Performing safety inspections of department facilities.
