Employment - EMT Requirement

Washington State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification or proof of EMT course completion is required before a candidate can be hired.  Applicants may participate in the application and testing process prior to obtaining EMT certification. The Department offers enrollment in an EMT course to a limited number of candidates.

Candidates who hold out of state or National Registry EMT certifications must secure Washington State reciprocity.   View/Download the EMS Reciprocity Requirements for King County and Washington State (PDF).
