Firefighter certification may help you succeed
as a Seattle Firefighter, however, you are still required to go
through the Department's
testing and
selection process and successfully complete
the
Recruit
Training Program if hired.
There is no reciprocity for prior experience with other agencies as
a Firefighter, Paramedic, Hazardous Materials Technician, Rescue
Specialist, etc.

EMT certification is a requirement for
employment as a Seattle Firefighter. Any other fire or life safety
experience may help you pass the physical agility tests, interviews and
recruit training. However, there is no preference given to prior experience in
the tests or requirements for employment.

Yes. We do not support a lateral transfer hiring
program. All candidates are required to apply via the Department’s entry-level
testing process and attend our
Recruit Training
Program once offered

How do I become a Paramedic in Seattle? |

You must be
a Seattle Firefighter in order to become a Paramedic in the Seattle Fire
Department. Firefighters must serve three years in the Department before
they are eligible to apply for Paramedic training. Once a Seattle
firefighter is accepted into the Paramedic Program, they attend the
Medic
One Paramedic Training Program.

King County Medic One office.
For a list of approved
EMT training programs you should contact the
Washington State Department of
Health or the King
County Emergency Services Division.

Which schools offer classes to become an EMT or Paramedic? |

Many community colleges around the country
and in Washington State offer Firefighter I, EMT, and other training. The
University of Washington is the only school in Seattle that offers qualified
classes for Paramedics. You must be a Seattle Frefighter to attend the
Paramedic training.

does not support a volunteer or intern Firefighter program. However the
Department does offer a Senior Fire Cadet program and a
Company 511 Fire Cadet
Program.

hydrant through the City’s main web site. Go to the MY NEIGHBORHOOD
section located on the home page of the City of Seattle web site and type in your address.
Look under "Public Safety and you will see
the location of the nearest fire station. To see
fire hydrants go to “zoom level 6”. There will be a list of hydrants and the
distance from your address at the bottom of the
screen.

to Seattle Fire and include your name
if you would like credit for the
photo. (Seattle Fire does not pay for
use of photos)
3. Photos will be reviewed based on clarity, proximity to the
apparatus
and whether or not the apparatus is
currently assigned to a station.
