IN A TIME OF ECONOMIC BLUES, SEATTLE SET TO ADD NIGHTCLUBS
Puget Sound Business Journal
A representative for The Beauty Bar, a salon-themed club chain with six locations, is searching for a venue on Capitol Hill and hopes to open there later this year. Owners of The Viper Room, a famous Sunset Strip nightspot, came to the Puget Sound area in early March to look for possible locations. A national chain, the Hard Rock Café, is set to open near Pike Place Market in July. Club owners say they see opportunity in the Puget Sound area, even during the economic downturn. Paul Devitt, owner of The Beauty Bar, said his company remains profitable because people still want to gather and hear music, regardless of the economy. Seattle's music industry brought in a record $1.2 billion in sales last year, according to the Mayor's Office of Film and Music.
HELP THE BLUE SCHOLARS WRITE A SONG!
It's been a very successful year for the socially conscious hip-hop duo Blue Scholars. After selling out night after night at Neumo's in Seattle last year, they went onto play the SXSW and the Sasquatch! Music Festival. They were also hooked up on a nationwide tour with indie hip-hop icons the Hieroglyphics. Then the two played outside during the Democratic National Convention, and in September, they shared the stage with such hip-hop power players as Nas and Mos Def at the largest hip-hop festival in the nation, Rock The Bells. Up next for the duo: Back to Austin for SXSW, and later this spring, watch for a new digital EP and video. The duo has agreed to let Seattle Times readers determine the subject of their next song, anything from the economy to your pet cat. The Times will pick the best entries, have a reader vote, and send the winning idea to the Blue Scholars to write up a rhyme.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Heath ledger has directed a video for Modest Mouse that has not been released yet. In an interview with VH1 in spring 2007, Isaac Brock said, "Heath Ledger's been wanting to do a video for one of the songs that didn't make it on the record, 'King Rat.' Terry Gilliam is going to help animate it." The status of the "King Rat" video is currently unknown.
