TThe Film + Music Office is proud to co-sponsor the Second Annual SxSeattle day party at the 2009 SXSW Music Conference in Austin, Texas on Saturday, March 21st. SxSeattle's 2009 lineup includes Blue Scholars, Common Market, Past Lives, Barcelona, Natalie Portman's Shaved Head, New Faces, Mt. St. Helen's Vietnam Band, Dynah, and Hey Marseilles. Whether or not you'll make it to Austin, come out and support the artists at the 2009 SxSeattle Send-Off Party this Friday, March 6th at the Tractor Tavern in Ballard. All door proceeds from the send-off show will go to the performing bands. SEATTLE SOUNDBITE FEATURES HELIO SEQUENCE
Seattle Soundbite
The Seattle Chapter of the Washington Restaurant Association presents the second annual Seattle Soundbite. This one-of-a-kind food and music event will feature thirteen Seattle restaurants serving up "street-style" versions of their signature food, alongside performances from five of the city's restaurant-employee rock bands. Special guests Helio Sequence will headline the show. The event is Thursday, March 19 at Showbox SoDo.

THE PEACE PROJECT TONIGHT

Sportn' Life Records, Obese Productions, Soul Gorilla, 206 Zulu, One Family Inc and Ozya present The Peace Project, a concert promoting peaceful conflict resolution in the hip hop community. The concert, featuring Big World Breaks, is tonight, March 4th, at the Nectar Lounge. The Peace Project hopes to spread a real message of change, hope, and love through the transformative power of music; and even more directly, to benefit the families of Joseph "29-E" Ryan and Tyrone Love - two members of the close-knit local music community whose lives were taken in recent months.

IRISH REELS FILM FESTIVAL

Now in its twelfth year, the Seattle Irish Reels Film Festival is a forum for features, shorts, and documentaries by independent Irish filmmakers. This year, the festival will present two free screenings at Seattle Center on March 14th and 15th, and a special screening at the Northwest Film Forum on March 17th. These screenings are a featured part of the Irish Week celebrations, presented by the Irish Heritage Club.

FIRST SEATTLE HIP HOP LEADERSHIP COUNCIL A SUCCESS
Sattle Hip-Hop Youth Summit
Approximately 200 people came out from across the greater Seattle area to participate in the 1st Seattle/NW Hip-Hop Leadership Council on February 28th at Seattle Central Community College. Presented by the Seattle Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council, Bush School Diversity Speaker Series, UmojaFest P.E.A.C.E. Center and SCCC Black Student Union, the conference provided a wealth of information beginning with history and socio-cultural analysis related to the hip-hop generation. Workshops like "Getting Your Hip-Hop Biz Tight," "Fashion Biz 101" "From The Hood To The Club: Violence in Hip-Hop & The Black Community," and "Women in Hip Hop" featured packed panels and lively conversation. happy hour For the eighth consecutive year, EMP|SFM is hosting Sound Off!, the Northwest's largest underage battle of the bands. The competition supports the local 21-and-under music scene by giving young artists from different backgrounds a once in-a-lifetime opportunity to come together and play their original music in a great all-ages atmosphere. Come support finalists Dyno Jamz, Makeup Monsters, and SOL this Saturday, March 7th!

FIRST LIL' STIFF

Lil' Stiff is a three day mini film festival held March 5th, 6th and 7th at the Jewel Box Theater at the Rendezvous that will represent some of STIFF's favorite films from previous years. This year's lineup includes Strange Girls, Frank & Cindy, and For Christ's Sake.

NWFF'S BYDESIGN 09 OPENING NIGHT

ByDesign 09 is an annual program that explores design and the moving image, and celebrates multidisciplinary artists who combine forms and transform our visual culture. The free opening night on Friday, March 6th includes a reception and live event featuring audio-visual performances by digital artists Kamran Sadeghi (Son Of Rose), Scott K. James and others. These live projections set design in motion and explore the synchronization of image and sound.

WTIA INDUSTRY ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

6TH ANNUAL MOISTURE FESTIVAL PARTNERS WITH SIFF

For the first time ever, the Moisture Festival is collaborating with SIFF to co-present an assortment of Comedy/Variet/Vaudeville/Burlesque-inspired films. All films in the series will be screened at the state-of-the-art SIFF Cinema and each one is preceded by a live Moisture Festival Variet performer. The film series runs from March 20th to 25th.

BUMBERSHOOT EXPANDS 2009 GREEN GOALS

The carbon-neutral Festival makes conscious decisions to decrease its environmental impact, while supporting the local culture and community. REGISTRATION FOR 2009 POP CONFERENCE NOW OPEN

The EMP|SFM is proud to present the 2009 Pop Conference on April 16th -19th. This year's theme is Dance Music Sex Romance: Pop and the Body Politic. The conference will bring to the forefront the erotic, taboo and sensual issues in many music styles and eras. This year's conference will feature 125 presenters across some 40 sessions and panels. The conference is highlighted by two keynote speakers, Nona Hendryx and Diane Warren. Conference registration is free and open to the public; however, space is limited and pre-registration is strongly recommended.

The 30th Annual Telly Awards honor the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions and work created for the Web. This year, the organizers have added a special "Classic Telly" category to honor work produced in the last thirty years. The final deadline for submissions is March 6th.

WashingtonFilmWorks welcomes new Finance Manager, Elizabeth Heile! After fifteen years in the investment services and non-profit sectors, Elizabeth Heile changed careers and in 2006 began providing finance and operations management services to Seattle film producers. Heile has supported post-production and distribution logistics as Business Manager for the film Inlaws & Outlaws and served as the finance manager for various local productions including The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle, and Dear Lemon Lima. She also provided accounting assistance on the feature films Traveling and True Adolescents. Prior to her work with filmmakers, she worked in economic development with Cascadia Revolving Fund, a non-profit CDFI (community development financial institution).

SEATTLE MUSIC VIDEO TO AIR ON ET'S THE INSIDER

Writer/director/producer David DeLay is getting his music video noticed, thanks to Jason Mesnick of "The Bachelor". His ex-wife, Hilary stars in the music video "Happy" that DeLay wrote and produced for Seattle band, Out From Underneath. The music video was selected and screened at the One Reel Film Festival during Bumbershoot in August 2008.

GARFIELD JAZZ BANDS EXCEL AT HAMPTON FESTIVAL

For the first time, both Garfield's A band and its B, or second-string band, won their divisions at the prestigious Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival, which has combined performance with jazz education for more than 40 years. Garfield's B band and Bellevue's Sammamish High School were both named outstanding among Class 3A bands. Four members of Garfield's A band were also recognized as outstanding soloists: Majeau, pianist Andrew Kennard, bassist Colleen Gilligan and trumpeter Riley Mulherkar. The Hampton festival, which ran four days, featured performances by jazz greats like Bobby McFerrin, Monty Alexander and Jeff Hamilton.

THE PHONE'S PREMIERE IS SET!

"The Phone," a new MTV reality show with an episode shot here in Seattle, is scheduled to air on Tuesday, April 21st at 10:00pm et/pt. Each episode will begin with two hidden cell phones ringing at opposite ends of a major city. Contestants who answer the phones will get to go on a timed mission for a cash prize. While they're racing through the city, a helicopter will track their every move. Check out a clip from the show (featuring Seattle's waterfront and an exploding car) introduced by Justin Timberlake on the first episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

POPCAP BUYS GASTRONAUT STUDIOS

PopCap Games today is announcing the purchase of Gastronaut Studios, the 4-person Seattle game studio known for developing the Xbox Live Arcade game Small Arms. Gastroanuat has partnered with PopCap in the past, assisting in the development of PopCap's Feeding Frenzy and Peggle for Xbox Live. Seattle-based PopCap has acquired the assets and employees of Gastronaut, though the Gastronaut founders will retain exclusive rights to Small Ams and the puzzle game Gel. PopCap said that the Gastronaut developers will work on "several undisclosed projects."
