Seattle Film Manual
PERMIT OR NOT?
While filming in Seattle, many activities will require a Film Permit for the use of city streets, sidewalks,and public parking. Complete filming guidelines are detailed in the Film Manual.
YOU WILL NEED A PERMIT IF:
- Filming takes place on Public property.
- Traffic will be interrupted on City streets.
- Pedestrian traffic on sidewalks will be interrupted.
- A tri-pod or dolly is used on sidewalks or streets.
- Wires or cables run across or over sidewalks.
- A generator is used on a sidewalk or street.
- Public parking will be impacted.
- A weapon, authentic or replica, is used and/or ammunition discharged.
- The Film Office determines the need in other filming situations.

The 2008 Seattle Film Manual contains information about insurance coverage, parking barricades, police, parks use and useful city department and locations contacts. Also included are the necessary forms for filming notification, resident signoffs and barricade verification. Please read the Manual before beginning the permit application process.
