These Hearing Examiner Rules (Rules) supplement Seattle Municipal Code and ordinances and other applicable law, for matters within the Hearing Examiner's jurisdiction, and govern administrative practice and procedure before the Hearing Examiner.

The Hearing Examiner Rules of Practice and Procedure are translated into Spanish for your convenience.  Hearings conducted by the Office of Hearing Examiner are required by law to be conducted in English (translation services are available).  If there is a conflict between the Spanish translation version of the Rules of Practice and Procedure, and the English version, the English version shall control.

Las Normas de Práctica y Procedimiento del Examinador de la Audiencia han sido traducidas al español para su conveniencia. La ley exige que las audiencias de la Oficina del Examinador de la Audiencia se lleven a cabo en inglés (hay servicios de traducción disponibles). Si existe un conflicto entre la traducción española de Las Normas de Práctica y Procedimiento y la versión original en inglés, prevalecerá la versión en inglés.

These Rules For Discrimination Cases supplement Seattle Municipal Code and ordinances, and other applicable law, for matters within the jurisdiction of the Hearing Examiner under Chapters 14.04, 14.06, 14.08 14.10, 14.16 and 14.17 SMC, and govern administrative practice and procedure before the Hearing Examiner (or Hearing Examiner and members of the Human Rights Commission, as applicable).

These Rules For Whistleblower Retaliation Cases supplement the Seattle Municipal Code and ordinances, and other applicable law, for matters within the jurisdiction of the Hearing Examiner under Subchapter III of Chapter 4.20 SMC, the Whistleblower Protection Code, and govern administrative practice and procedure before the Hearing Examiner.

The Office of Hearing Examiner is a separate and independent office of the City created by the Seattle Municipal Code. The Office is charged with conducting fair and impartial administrative hearings, when authorized by the Code, to review the actions of various City departments.
