Proposition 6 would unnecessarily delete and eliminate the
City Charter Auditing Committee consisting of the Mayor, President
of the City Council serving as Chairman of the Finance
Committee, and the Comptroller to examine all claims and demands
against the city. Since there is no valid reason to delete this
oversight committee or the City Comptroller, please read our
statements against Proposition 1, 2, and 4 in this same voters pamphlet.
Vote No on Proposition 6 on November 2, 1999.

Rebuttal to Statement Against
Proposition 6 eliminates references to outdated practices and
clarifies the title of one section of the Charter. The Auditing
Committee is unnecessary and has not functioned for many decades.
Instead, all of the City's bills are verified by at least two
employees and are subject to audit by the City and State Auditors. The
City Council receives documentation on bills and claims every week.
Preserving outdated language serves no purpose. Vote YES
on Proposition 6.
