How to Guide

Step 3
Set Up Utility Meters and Obtain Energy Usage Data

This step shows how to obtain whole-building summarized utility meter usage data. Seattle City Light and Seattle Steam customers can sign up for "automated benchmarking services" to have their meter data uploaded each month to Portfolio Manager. Puget Sound Energy (PSE) offers a spreadsheet of the summarized usage. Each utility has different instructions, so please follow them carefully.

Instructions for Each Utility

IMPORTANT: Campuses
Automated benchmarking and reporting is not compatible with Portfolio Manager’s campus feature. Please contact EnergyBenchmarking@seattle.gov or call 206-727-8484 for assistance before proceeding with STEP 3.

Since utilities have up to 30 days to upload utility data, we recommend starting to comply with the benchmarking program well before the deadlines.

Manual Utility Data Entry

If you wish to maintain existing benchmarking data, or track detailed, meter specific information, entering the data manually may be a better option. Once the data is set up manually, be sure to complete STEP 4: to confirm the building's 'Energy Intensity' scores.
