Energy Conservation

Conserving energy is the most cost-effective way to create “new” energy. Seattle has been a leader in energy conservation since the 1970s and Seattle City Light became the first carbon neutral large utility in the nation in 2000. With the whole community’s help, we continue to make strides in using energy in smarter, more efficient ways.

If you own a home, small business or commercial building in Seattle, you are eligible to participate in Seattle's Community Power Works program. CPW is a neighborhood-based building retrofit program that will achieve deep energy savings and create green jobs.

Seattle City Light offers a wide range of incentives and tools for both residential and businesses customers.Whether you are a homeowner or renter, there are many things you can do to make your home more energy efficient. Seattle City Light put also together a list of practical tips  to help you get started on being more energy efficient today.  Finally, if you are serious about making your home as energy efficient as possible, you should conduct a home energy audit. You can either do this yourself by using our step-by-step guide or you can contact a professional to provide this service. Single family homeowners who are Seattle City Light customers are eligible to receive this service for $95.

For low income residents: Seattle homeowners and rental property owners can get free weatherization services if they meet income qualifications. (Qualification is by tenant income.)

As a small business owner, the Smart Business Program provides financial incentives to upgrade your lighting. Larger, commercial businesses are eligible for incentives too.
