| Environmental Action Agenda |
The City of Seattle has emerged as a national leader in raising awareness
and generating action in the fight against climate disruption. The 2006-2007
Environmental Action Agenda recounts the successes and advances the plan for
the fight in the future, in addition to detailing the City's work in restoring
and protecting our valuable urban forest. The Agenda also spells out the City's
efforts in restoring creeks, rebuilding wetlands and natural drainage systems
and protecting water quality. Finally, the Agenda outlines the ways the City
is making neighborhoods--and people--healthier through "green" building
programs and development that promotes walking, cycling and transit use.
Starting in 1998, the City's Environmental Management Program was initiated to provide an overarching framework to systematically reduce the environmental impacts of the City's operations. While several parts of this program are still underway, the overall guide for the City's environmental work is now the Environmental Action Agenda. The Environmental Action Agenda (EAA) goes beyond the City's operations and considers broader community sustainability issues. The EAA is organized into 4 priority areas:
- Climate Protection Initiative
- Green Seattle Initiative
- Restore Our Waters
- Healthy People & Communities
