Disaster ready...prepared people,
resilient community

Editors Note: This will be the last issue until September. Enjoy the summer, and look for more starting this fall!

July - August Tip of the Month: On Tuesday, August 7, the City of Seattle will be celebrating the 28th Annual Night Out Against Crime. Last year, 1,327 events were registered with the Seattle Police Department!

Every year, Night Out is a great way to get re-acquainted with neighbors you know, and an even better way to introduce yourself to those you dont. When it comes to disaster, the people right around us will be the first to help. Many groups take this opportunity to update their contact information, review their response plans and confirm their neighborhood meeting place.

When you register your event, let us know if youd like us to visit you that night. Our Emergency Management staff and volunteers will do our best to get to as many block parties as we can!

Check out the Seattle Police Departments official Night Out 2012 website for downloadable invitations, FAQs, details on how to register, 2012 logo and more: http://www.seattle.gov/police/nightout/default.htm

Local Preparedness Events:
Saturday, July 14, 2012 - 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Neighbors United to Prepare, Lake City House and Lake City Court - on 33rd Ave NE, between NE 125th & 127th Street.
Learn how the 9-1-1 system works, teach your kids what to do during an earthquake, find out best ways to store water and emergency supplies and more! Food, prizes and safety activities are sure to make this a fun and informative event. Seattle Housing Authority residents, Lake City businesses and local response agencies have worked together as "Neighbors United to Prepare" to sponsor this event. Everyone welcome!

Look for Preparedness Booths at these Events:
