Disaster ready...prepared people,
resilient community

Happy New Year! As we begin 2012, we also mark the start of the third consecutive year of Seattle OEM’s Monthly Connection. How quickly time flies… Yep, we’re having fun.

January Tip of the Month: It’s all about the training! Check out the attached flyer for the full slate of 2012 SNAP classes, including a new weekday Brown Bag series (for those with full evenings and weeknights), Home Retrofit classes, and a new Volunteer Training!

2012 Volunteer Training: If you enjoy public speaking and want to help others get prepared for disasters, join us for a Training of Trainers! See attached flyer, register at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QPWYWC5, or contact Cathy Wenderoth at 206-233-5096 for more information.

Other News to Know: Seattle OEM is in the process of updating Seattle’s Disaster Plan, also known as the Seattle Disaster Readiness and Response Plan. Sign up for one of two community meetings in January to talk with OEM staff about how we plan WITH the community, not just for the community.

If you would like to attend, please RSVP at: Seattle-DisasterPlan@seattle.gov.

  • Monday, January 9, 2012, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Northgate Community Center, 10510 5th Ave NE, 98125.
  • Tuesday, January 17, 2012, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Southwest Community Center, 2801 SW Thistle, 98126.

If you know someone who would like to attend, but needs interpretation services, please invite them and let us know when you RSVP.  Use this same email address if you would like to provide us with your thoughts and ideas outside of the meetings or survey.

Other Calendar Announcements:

  • PNA Home Design & Remodel Fair, Sunday, January 29, 10am – 4pm., Phinney Neighborhood Center, Blue Building, 6532 Phinney Ave N, 98103, Admission, $6 PNA Members, $10 General Public, Children 12 and under admitted free. Seattle OEM’s volunteer Home Retrofit Instructors will be on-hand to answer questions about how to seismically secure your home to its foundation.
