Step Ahead and SPP Pathway Preschool Programs
Step Ahead and SPP Pathway provides full- and half-day high-quality preschool programs for low-income 3- and 4-year olds. The preschools are run by community-based organizations and schools, and are located in or near elementary schools. The Step Ahead preschools use a research-based curriculum that is aligned with Washington State early learning guidelines and Common Core standards.
Part-day programs provide a 3½ hour instructional day for children, 4 to 5 days a week from September to June. Full-day programs provide 6 or more hours a day for children, 5 days a week from September to June. Teachers provide daily opportunities for children to improve skills in language and literacy, math concepts, science, social studies, arts, physical development, and social and emotional development.
Eligibility and Application Information
Part-day Step Ahead preschools are located in numerous locations in Seattle. Full-day Seattle Step Ahead are located in licensed child care centers in Seattle. Payment assistance may be available if families need help paying for a full-day program through the Working Connections Child Care or City of Seattle Child Care Assistance Program.
Step Ahead Program requirements:
- Children must be three or four years old by August 31 of the participating year
- Families must live in Seattle city limits
- Programs are located in southeast and southwest Seattle
