SUMMARY
The Office for Education (OFE) Division in the Department of Neighborhoods (DoN) will be awarding City of Seattle Families and Education Levy (Levy) funds for elementary school and middle school summer learning opportunities. Levy support for summer learning is intended to provide struggling students with additional learning time during the summer to catch up with their peers, in pursuit of the goal to improve academic outcomes of Levy focus students while reducing the achievement gap. Levy-funded summer programs deliver a minimum of 120 hours of academic and enrichment content each summer.

  • Up to $177,250 will be available for 2015 summer learning programs serving students entering Seattle Public Schools (SPS) elementary schools.
  • Up to $287,436 will be available for 2015 summer learning programs serving students entering SPS middle schools.
  • Once awarded, schools and organizations will receive annual funding for the duration of the 2011 Levy, assuming student outcome targets and contract obligations are met.
  • Additional funding will become available in future years of the 2011 Levy to serve a greater number of students at the elementary and middle school levels.
Schools and organizations committed to improving students' academic outcomes are encouraged to complete the elementary school and/or middle school summer learning Request for Investment (RFI) applications. Funds will be awarded on a competitive basis outlined within the RFI documents.
