What Is It?

You need a refrigeration permit whenever remote refrigerant lines are installed. The contractor installing refrigeration lines must have a valid refrigeration contractor's license with the City of Seattle. Depending on the equipment being installed, you may also need to meet other requirements, including:

How Much Does It Cost?

Our base permit fee for installing refrigeration is $57, plus an additional amount for each compressor. Our fee for refrigeration repair or alteration is based on the value of the work.

How Long Does It Take?

We issue most refrigeration permits over the counter, on the same day that you apply. You don't need an appointment and up to two permits can be taken in at a time. We may be able to take in more permits depending on how busy the Applicant Services Center is. Wait time is generally less than 20 minutes. You can also mail or fax in your application; we give walk-ins priority, however.
