Appeal Hearing Notices

The City’s Hearing Examiner has received an appeal of the Master Use Permit decision(s) described below. An appeal hearing has been scheduled to be held in the Office of Hearing Examiner, 13th Floor, Alaska Building, 618 Second Avenue. Because appeals may be withdrawn or hearings rescheduled, please call the Office of Hearing Examiner the day before the hearing to be sure no changes have been made. The hearing will be held under the appeal provisions of the Master Use Permit Ordinance (Chapter 23.76, SMC) and the Hearing Examiner Rules.

Hearings are open to the public, but generally only those who are parties to the appeal and persons called by the parties as witnesses will have the opportunity to testify. A person who has not appealed, but who has a substantial interest in the outcome of the appeal, may request to be allowed to participate in an appeal as an "intervenor." An intervenor, like the parties, would have the option of appealing the Hearing Examiner’s decision in this matter. Intervenor status should be requested as soon as possible prior to hearing and in accordance with the Hearing Examiner Rules. For information regarding appeals, and intervenor status, contact the Office of Hearing Examiner, Room 1320 Alaska Building, 618 Second Avenue, Seattle, Washington 98104 (206) 684-0521. The Hearing Examiner’s office provides barrier-free access.

Notices in this section may appear in more than one publication prior to a hearing. Notices for appeals of Shoreline projects are provided by the State of Washington, and do not appear in this publication.

Notice of Public Meeting on the Cleveland High School Renovation Development Departures

Members of the public are invited to comment on the departures from the Seattle Municipal Code development standards that apply to the renovation of Cleveland High School, 5511 15th Avenue South.

Cleveland High School is undergoing a major renovation that will modernize the 1927 building, add a new classroom building, and build a new gymnasium/commons building. To construct the project as designed requires the school to request departures from the development standards in the following areas:

Building Height: The property is presently zoned for a maximum height of 30 feet. The school is asking for a departure from the building height limit in order to construct a new classroom building, 22 feet above the limit and a new gymnasium, 12 feet above the limit.

Parking: The school is asking for a departure from the requirement to provide 188 additional parking spaces on site.

Bus Loading: The school is requesting to continue the existing departure of loading and unloading school busses in its present location on 15th Avenue South.

A committee composed of nearby neighbors, Seattle Public Schools representatives, and City of Seattle representatives will hear your comments on the requested departures Wednesday, February 11, at 6:30 PM in the Cleveland High School Library. After hearing your comments, the committee will evaluate the requested departures, possibly propose modifications to the requests, and then make recommendations concerning the requested departures. The recommendations are forwarded to the Director of the Seattle Department of Planning and Development for final determination.
