Seattle Planning Commission Seeks New Members
December 1, 2008

The City of Seattle is looking for excellent candidates to fill four openings on the Seattle Planning Commission this year. The commission provides independent and objective advice to the Mayor, City Council and City departments on broad planning goals, policies and plans for the physical development of Seattle. Candidates with skills and experience in architecture, housing, transportation, and urban planning, and with development experience are encouraged to apply.

Of the four open positions, two will be appointed by City Council, one by the Mayor and one by the commission. Each member is appointed for a renewable, three-year term. Commissioners must reside in Seattle and serve without compensation.

The 16-member commission reflects a broad range of professional and community experience and perspectives and seeks to represent the cultural diversity of Seattle’s residents. In addition to advising City officials on a wide range of zoning, transportation and housing issues, the commission also acts as stewards of Seattle’s Comprehensive Plan.

Participation in the Seattle Planning Commission requires attendance at monthly meetings (second and fourth Thursdays of each month) and participation on at least one sub-committee that meets monthly. Commissioners also attend and participate in relevant public meetings and events.
To be considered for appointment to the commission, please e-mail your letter of interest and résumé to barb.wilson@seattle.gov by Dec. 12, 2008 (please reference Seattle Planning Commission in the subject line).

For paper submittals, send your information to:
