Greenhouse Gas Emissions Related to New Development to be Assessed
March 4, 2008

In recognition of the impacts from greenhouse gas emissions, the Seattle City Council adopted Ordinance 122574 on December 3, 2007. This ordinance requires City departments that perform environmental review under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) to evaluate greenhouse gas emissions when reviewing permit applications for development.

Starting on March 31, 2008, permit applicants will be required to disclose greenhouse gas emissions on the SEPA checklist. A worksheet is available to calculate emissions.
DPD staff will be working to develop appropriate mitigation strategies for greenhouse gas emissions over the remainder of 2008.

For more information, including upcoming outreach activities and the Climate Change Impacts Worksheet, please visit the DPD website at www.seattle.gov/dpd/Planning/GreenhouseGas.
