About the Event
Guest speaker Ray Cole will share his findings on: (1) the matching of technological and cultural advances and subsequent user expectation and acceptance of innovative environmental systems, (2) the role of buildings in nurturing an environmental ethic, and (3) the ways that building environmental assessment methods are transforming the culture of building practice.
About the Speaker
Cole has been teaching environmental issues in building design at the UBC School of Architecture for the past 28 years. Cole heads the Environmental Research Group at UBC, which is the focus of environmentally related research within the School of Architecture. He was co-founder of the Green Building Challenge—an international collaborative effort to benchmark progress in green building performance and environmental assessment—and has served on numerous national and international committees related to buildings and the environment.
In 2001 Cole was selected as the North American Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture Distinguished Professor for “sustained commitment to building environmental research and teaching.” In 2003 he received the Architectural Institute of British Columbia Barbara Dalrymple Memorial Award for Community Service and the U.S. Green Building Council’s Green Public Service Leadership Award. He was recently elected as a UBC Distinguished Professor and is a Director of the Canadian Green Building Council.
