At the beginning of most years, DPD adjusts the fees it charges for its services. Effective Jan. 1, 2006, there is only one change that will affect permit fees: Construction-related permit fees will go up between 5 and 6 percent to reflect the increase in the value of construction. Current fees are established in the 2005 Fee Subtitle—Amended for 2006.

To determine construction value, DPD uses the building valuation data (BVD) published by the International Code Council (ICC) to adjust for changes in the average cost of construction for the different occupancies and types of construction. On Jan. 1 of each year, DPD uses the most recent BVD published by ICC as a base upon which to create a Seattle BVD table. The modifications are prescribed in Director’s Rule (DR) 1-2006.
