The purpose of the 2008 Seattle Electrical code is to promote public safety in a practical manner from hazards arising from the use of electricity. Our code does not provide design specifications and is not intended as an installation instruction manual. It applies to all electrical wiring and equipment, including communications systems, installed or used within Seattle. Some ship, railway, communication equipment, and electrical utility installations are specifically exempted from the code; see section 80.3 for details.
We are updating Seattle Electrical Code for 2014. Our update will consider changes in the 2011 and 2014 editions of the National Electrical Code and the latest WAC rules adopted by the State of Washington.
If you are an industry professional with suggestions for changes, we’d like to hear from you. Please use our submittal form to provide your recommended code language, including an explanation of why the change is needed. Email the form, with the code section number in the subject line, to SeattleElectricalCode2014@Seattle.Gov.
